LOOK UP
When can you see it?
Late night and morningThe last quarter Moon typically rises around midnight and sets around midday. It can be a familiar sight on a clear morning, even after the Sun is up. Its orientation depends on where you are observing from; the phase itself is shared worldwide.
Are “third quarter” and “last quarter” different phases?
They are two names for the same phase. “Third quarter” counts progress through the whole cycle, while “last quarter” points to the final quarter of the journey before the next new Moon.
